At the close of our morning circle we sit together, each on our own stump. We talk about what needs tending in the garden, sometimes I tell a story that sets the stage for what is to come. Often on Wednesday we sing "today is a special day, today is a fun day, today is harvesting day!" And so it is, we break into small groups, each harvesting something different.
Harvest day is by far the most exciting. It is this day that wet have the honor of literally reaping what we have sown. It is a beautiful day that makes our everyday work tangible.
Harvest day just so happens to also be soup day at school. The veggies are delivered with enthusiasm to the younger children for chopping, and then added to the soup to be enjoyed at lunch that afternoon.
The love and pride that is palpable in this garden of ours gives me hope, inspiration and renewed energy each morning. I am indeed very grateful for such work, such an opportunity in life - tending this spot of earth, alongside these growing children.
