A bit like his mama I suppose, this boy loves ''fishin" ! Just about anything, in the hands of Chaz, has the ability to transform into a fishing pole. A piece of Eucalyptus bark found by the stream bank, a spool of thread from my quilting bag, yarn from the knitting basket, sticks of course, and more have all recently served as a fishing device.
This sweet little project came from the book, Creative Play for your Toddler and had Chaz' name all over it, thus the book mark was inserted for some crazed last minuet making to come.
And, so it was, the eve of Chaz' Birthday found me fashioning a catch of felt fish, a blue pond and a simple bamboo pole.
The fish each have a washer for a nose so that they can be caught with the lump of cheese (magnet). Inspiration for the fish design was gathered from the book: Hawaii's Fishes. The materials needed for this project are so simple, wool felt, wool stuffing, embroidery thread, some embellishments, a metal thing of some sort for the snout, bamboo or other stick, magnet and twine!
My sweet fisher boy so loves this pole and has now mastered the art of catching multiple fish at once. Oden, our pup, has also mastered the art of catching the fish and attempting to eat them, which I hope explains the stuffing spilling out of the above yellow fish - erg!
Simple in construction and concept but still enough of a challenge, for this age group, to master the art of making that cheese ball enticing enough to the lurking fish in the pond. I wish his Papa would return home with as many fish in his basket (wink, wink, Babe).
We have made a few other fishing sets for friends who are also turning 3! Perhaps they can all go fishin' together some day soon? What a way to while away the hours.
