Eggs are a springtime favorite around here. Each year it is getting more enjoyable to embark on this project, as the boys are doing more and more of the actual egg blowing themselves. Everyone seems to have their own ideas about how this egg decorating business will go, what materials to use, blown eggs verses hard-boiled eggs, hung on display or not, you get the idea, many creative opinions in one home! I am learning and constantly reminding myself, these activities are about the process and time together and not the outcome. That said, I did hord away my own pile of eggs to paint just as I pleased, shhhh...
After all the work of blowing out the inside we had a bowl of two dozen, naturally beautiful, eggs ready for decorating. I had some hesitation about painting them, as they were so pretty just as they were, so I opted for more sparse designs on my stash.
This first round of egg decorating was done simply with poster paints. There are more sessions planned for the next two days, and they will be of a different variety I am sure.
Gavin generously shared his beads with us so that we could stop the fishing line, (used to hang the egg from the tree) from slipping through the hole in the egg. The bead was tied onto the mid section of a length of fishing line; then a 5" doll making needle was used to pull both ends of the fishing line through the egg, creating a loop to hang the egg.
Our living room is such a happy place with all the lovely eggs dancing from their branches.
As the egg suggests: may new life grace this wonderful season!
