What a fresh batch of playdough can do:
breath new life into an old gift,
offer fantastic color inspiration,
give sick kiddos something warm to kneed and sculpt,
spark all manner of conversation,
foster an afternoon of togetherness,
spur hysterical laughter and squeals of delight!
store away for more of the above another day.
The recipe we use is from my mom, and where she originally got it we do not recall, but it seems to show up all over - just so you know I am not claiming it for my own brilliant creation!
Mix in a pot:
3 Cups flour
1-1/2 Cups salt
3 Tablespoon Cream of Tarter (helps prevent stickiness)
Stir in the following:
3 Cups of water
3 Tablespoons oil
Stir over medium heat until it gathers into a ball, knead smooth, store in jar or other air tight container.
suggestions:
use a wide bottom pan, color with food coloring or liquid non toxic watercolor paint (we use paints)
have fun!
This little tool box playdough kit was a gift to Chaz for his third birthday. I scavenged for quite some time for just the right little tools and whatnot. The kit lives under our project table and is used very often. Originally, it came stocked with dough made by mama, so the opportunity to make the dough added a whole new dimension to the simple set up. Among the favorites are the "bug" cookie cutters and my fattigmann roller (not to worry Grandma - this is only borrowed from time to time, I wouldn't let it go!)
The above recipe makes just enough dough to fill 3 pint jars. And kept room temp it lasts months or maybe more, ours gets so mucky from use that I replace it before it has a chance to go bad.
All packed up and ready to use tomorrow!
Since Chaz has had this kit I have come across a few blog posts on playdough worth peeking at if you are scheming ideas for both content of the kit and how they can be used! www.sewliberated.com and www.rhythmofthehome.com
happy making!
