I believe in consciously taking the time to slow down, and enjoy something as simple as this; jumping in the sand, splashing in the waves, too much sunshine and many good friends...it's summer! But, I'll be honest, I have a hard time really relaxing. Relaxing enough to stay the day and get the full experience my children need to have.
I want them to see me sitting on the beach, or running, or playing frisbee, smiling, relaxing, loving the moment. I want them to see me enjoying the good life, drinking it in, savoring it. It's important to take the time to experience summer, fill those memory banks full of fantastic childhood moments. Making time and space for these moments to become fond memories is an important part of this parenting job, but not always easy to do.
So, for now an extra bag, a project bag for the beach, is the solution to the "gotta go" voice in the back of my head. If my hands are busy, my wandering, restless mind can stay. Stay the day even.
I mean really now, who in their right mind would find it difficult, in any sort of way, to spend a whole day in the midst of this kind of beauty? I know, crazy. But it's true, there is a busyness in my mind that must be consciously calmed. Or occupied with making......peeps, as the case may be.
Peeps you say? Yeah, peeps. I stumbled across this adorable pattern just before easter, and made a few for the bunny to deliver. They are needle felted from wool roving using the tutorial from Rad Megan. My dear cousin saw the peeps and insisted that she really needed them for her birthday. They didn't arrive anywhere even close to her birthday (I am not quick about felting at all) but, she did get a silly package of peeps at last.
Who said peeps are just for springtime?
There's more in that beach project bag for next time, and I can't wait to go!
Happy summer days to you.
What's in your project bag?
