So happy to report that I am back at the sewing table. It's been quite some time since any real sewing has taken place. Oh, there's been a whole bunch of dreaming and scheming, but truth be told I got a notion to add a new machine to the toolbox. Once my mind was set on said machine I just couldn't get myself to sew anymore. That is until the holidays came and went and I indeed was fortunate enough to find myself with that little dream-come-true on my table (thank you to those who so generously pitched in and the fine folks at The Cotton Ball who helped me answer months worth of questions and ultimately sent me home with my machine - I am one lucky girl).
So in the time between deciding I really must have a new machine, or should I say a machine (I have always had a machine on loan from either my dear friend Susie, my Mom or my Aunt) and actually bringing it home, there were many hours of conjuring up the projects to come, the pattern and material collecting even. Yes, the piles have been growing. So the first project hot off the press so to speak is from this A-line skirt pattern: The Barcelona A Line by Amy Butler, created with Anna Maria Horner's Summer Totem in Emerald from the Loulouthi Velveteen fabric collection, and, oh it is scrumptious fabric! I could cover a couch, sew a coat, some pants, a blanket...you name it, I would love to make it with this fabric (and just might). I often find pattern selection to be a bit challenging, just as I find cloths shopping challenging. I have relatively few curves, now just you wait before commenting, it's a pain when it comes to clothes. No one makes women's cloths or patterns with small hips and mostly no waist, but with sewing your own there is at least the ability to re-draw the lines, which I did. I was happy to find this tutorial on the pattern prior to purchasing it. In fact this is also where I found the fabric and where I often find sewing inspiration.
With that I will get back to the sewing table, where I have yet another skirt in the works, before I put away the pattern.
Say, what's in your sewing basket, on your table or scheming list?
