Some days ago I shared with you Semi Fantastic Mr. Fox, who was crafted for Chaz. What I didn't tell you was that in the gifting of Mr. Fox I learned something, that I think I really knew, but became painfully aware of in the moment of his unveiling. What I learned is that little boys of the sweet age of eight, yes eight, still want mama to craft snugly, special animals for them, too. And so it is that I quickly whipped up Mrs. Rabbit for Gavin's birthday. Making his wait time a full three days between the arrival of Mr. Fox, and Mrs. Rabbit coming along to join him.
A velveteen rabbit was fitting as we had just seen a lovely ballet performance of the Velveteen Rabbit which captivated us all.
Truth be known, belonging to an eight year old boy is a bit more adventurous then belonging to a stuffed animal loving five year old! My heart was so warmed by Gavin's delight in such a gift. It is funny that I would make an assumption about when he is "too old" to love stuffed animals made by mama! From now on I think I'll keep crafting, and wait for him to say otherwise.
