Of course there is more to the story than I am going to tell, but it really isn't my story to tell. I can, however, tell the part of the story that belongs to me; that of the flowers.
Undoubtedly, my favorite part of designing wedding flowers, for those I love, is in the giving. To design and make a gift of any sort is a journey. The journey begins with love on my own part, then in cultivating the conceptual design in my mind, keeping always the recipient at the center of my thought process, and then it materialises before my eyes - right there in my own hands.
This wedding day belonged to my father-in-law and his sweet new bride, touching for sure that their individual paths should meet. It really is hard to know where life's journey may lead.
Between the two of them there are seven children and 23 grandchildren...fwew! We all pitched in to cook dinner, photograph, design flowers, clean (before and after) and simply enjoy. It was a casual event full of family, beauty and celebration, once again, held on the ranch.
As for the floral details I will tell you this, because I dig it, the bridal bouquet was made entirely from the gardens of my aunt, with the addition of a few stems from my yard, and one $8 bunch of roses from the farmer's market. For the centerpieces, we picked thirty pounds of apples, filled wooden boxes, that Travis and Gary made for me some time ago, then added some garden, roadside and farmers market blossoms to that.
The best part about the centerpieces? The applesauce the day after the wedding!
The gift for me is being invited to play an integral role in the creation of this very special day, in the lives of some of my best friends and family.
And the sun set on yet, another beautiful day on the ranch.
